Imagine knowing that this could be their last breath and knowing that you may never hold this precious baby in your arms. When a micro-preemie is born they cannot be held, they are immediately taken away from you and millions of tests are carried out. Most micropreemies will live in a hospital until their actual due date. The life of a micro preemie depends on the extent of the fight he can make for the life he gives. Why they stand there fighting for their lives makes you wonder where you went wrong. The answer may never be known and, in general, you have done absolutely nothing wrong. Pregnancy can be a difficult time and may not always go as we hoped. I saw a 1 pound, 7 ounce little boy fighting for his life. At one point during this battle it fell below the pound. This little boy is my cousin who has the biggest impact on my life today and the person I look up to. He is now 2 years old and he is the best little boy I know. We will see in this article what a micro premature baby is, the developmental delays and health risks it incurs, and the equipment used. What is a micro premature? A micropreemie is defined as a baby weighing less than 1 3/4 pounds or generally born before 26 weeks gestation. For most people, a baby weighing less than 3 pounds or less than 29 weeks gestation is now considered a micropremature (bird) baby. You look past the health issues and bless the miracle that is right in front of you as he fights for his life. Yes, many health risks can arise as we age, but your biggest battle is over. Micro and preemie are two different definitions, but they are both fighting the same battle, some just fight a little harder, but can both have the same outcome.
