  • Essay / Abortion is Wrong - 1134

Abortion is one of the most controversial issues in America. The participants in this debate have strong beliefs on the subject in question. On one side of the debate are people who believe in pro-choice. They argue that a woman's choice is more important than the unborn fetus. They emphasize that an unborn child does not have the same level of importance as its mother. Furthermore, the pro-life group states that choice is the sole focus of their argument. They believe that if a woman cannot choose to terminate her pregnancy, then she loses one of her basic human rights. The other side of the debate is the pro-life group. Their main concern is that the fetus is a person; she therefore has the same human rights as the mother. As a result, when states pass laws allowing abortion, they legalize murder. When considering an individual's ethics and values, killing is morally wrong. Therefore, abortion of unborn children is also wrong. Abortion, the unethical expulsion of an embryo or fetus, for the purpose of deliberately ending a pregnancy, should be prohibited because human life begins at conception, which economics does not justify abortion and that an unwanted child does not justify abortion. The fusion of two germ cells, one being a sperm and the other being an egg, is complete within twelve hours, at which time the egg is fertilized and becomes a zygote containing forty-six chromosomes necessary for the creation of a new human life. It is during this remarkable process that conception occurs. Conception confirms life and makes this undeveloped human one of a kind (Rorvik & Shettles, 1983, p. 16). Many researchers, as well as scientists, identify the first moments of life as the moment when a sperm unites with an egg, o...... middle of paper ......sion and c is life. many cases of mothers have an unwanted child, but soon after their birth, they fall in love with their baby. Reported evidence reveals that women and men who did not want to have their child later reported that they were satisfied as parents of those children (Burtcheall, 1983, p. 130). As a society, people have become selfish. Abortion is a prime example of society's selfishness. Individuals put themselves first and others second, that’s what today’s mothers do. They put themselves first and their unborn children second. When parents do this, they commit murder. Abortion is wrong. This is a mistake, because when a person decides to have an abortion, they commit suicide. A fetus is a person. It is a separate entity from its mother; therefore, the only future of this unborn child is to be born and not to abort.
