  • Essay / Motivation for Observing Child Development - 879

After sitting there for about 30 minutes, I perceived many unique things happening among the younger children in the gym area of the jungle. For example, I was amazed at how they used their imagination and pretended to be pirates. I heard a few boys say that the bottom of the slides was an ocean and that the third boy was a shark. They also made up rules as they played. For example, one of them stood up from the group as a leader and came up with these fun rules about how to get through the jungle gym safely. It shows you how big a child's imagination can be. During this hour, I also observed how they took care of each other. For example, a younger child, she looked like she was about 5 years old, was trying to climb up a tube and I noticed these older kids were helping her up. It was interesting to see how young children learn to help each other. Although many children grouped together to play, I noticed that a few would stop playing alone. It was nice to see them explore the jungle gym at their own pace.
