Essay / Globalization has improved the standard of living in Bangladesh
One night, I was chatting online in a Yahoo chat room at my home in Bangladesh. Suddenly my grandfather came into my room and asked me: "What are you doing now?" It's 3 a.m., go to sleep. I told him, "I can't go to bed now...I'm arguing...please don't be mad at me." He surprisingly asked me: “What is this?” I told him: “I'm talking to a teenage girl in Brazil. » He seemed to think I had gone crazy. He was surprised to hear about online communication. His comment was: “You have become too modern. » Yes, I agree with him, but how are we modern? Bangladesh has a reputation as one of the poorest countries in the world. We are fighting against poverty and hunger, but globalization gives us more freedom to fight against poverty and hunger. However, Bangladesh has become a modern country after opening its borders for free trade and investment. The idea of globalization and modernization arose from the capitalist market mentality in the age of technology. “Globalization occurs when an organization expands its operations to other parts of the world, actively participates in other markets, and competes with organizations located in other countries” (Holton p. 36). Bangladesh allows foreign companies to enter our market. Our companies are also allowed to enter foreign markets. Globalization is removing international borders and increasing market competition. In the modern world, globalization also has an impact on our culture and social life. For example, MacDonalds introduced American fast food to other parts of the world. Foreign media present different cultures to different nations. In my last essay, I discussed the downsides of globalization in Canada. Other countries, such as Bangladesh, benefit from opening their borders to trade and investment by increasing their modernity. Our history shows that we lagged behind the modern world during colonial rule, for our anti-globalization movement. Britain and Pakistan ruled Bangladesh for 200 and 23 years respectively. They used their power to exploit the people of Bangladesh and there was no democracy and freedom. This has kept us apart from the rest of the world and prevented us from becoming a modern country. “The birth of Bangladesh in 1971 was the first example of a successful ethnic and linguistic nationalist movement to create a new state in the postcolonial period” (Jahan, p. 12). Our independence gave us the opportunity to share our knowledge with other nations and led us towards modernity..
