  • Essay / What is the Reggio Emilia approach? - 730

The excitement I felt as a young child about going to Disney World is the same enthusiasm that overwhelms me now about participating in this unique internship in his type. The Reggio Emilia approach is a very common topic covered in my education classes and one that continues to amaze me with the results achieved. Having the opportunity to experience this approach will change my life both as a person and as a future teacher. This exceptional approach requires focusing on a philosophy that encourages students to learn from their experiences, their peers and their environment. For this philosophy to be successful, six main factors must be present. The first factor is the image of the child, they believe that a child is motivated. The poem describes all the ways a child can learn and how children are extremely expressive, and imagination plays a huge role in the child's search for knowledge and understanding. this is why the expressive arts are considered such an important aspect of this philosophy. This brings us to the third factor of this approach which is the progettazione, the program of study of this philosophy. The program is based on the children's interest, which is identified by the teacher who observes, listens and evaluates the children. Once interest is identified, the teacher must observe and be a resource for children, rather than controlling what they believe is important to learn. This philosophy is also extremely unique since it was created by the parents and the community with the existence of Loris Malaguzzi, because it is the parents who best understand the needs of their child. This is why this approach is so successful because everyone is involved in the child's learning. Another important aspect of this. Since I am considering becoming a special education teacher, I feel that this approach would be extremely beneficial for this population of students. With children with disabilities, there is a strong focus on the child's abilities rather than the things they may struggle with. This is very important when working with people with disabilities because they feel like they are good at things because they have been told their whole life that they can't accomplish anything because of their disability. I strive to build the confidence of my future students by using this approach in my classroom. This experience will also force me to learn to think on my feet, since I will be in an unfamiliar place. Acquiring this skill will help me in my profession because as a teacher, you never know what you may be faced with, especially in particular contexts.
