  • Essay / Research Paper on the Sacrament of Marriage - 1002

Among the seven sacraments, the most important is the sacrament of marriage. The sacrament of marriage is defined by God's plan for humans to establish partnerships between men and women in the form of marriage in order to serve God more fully. Through rules, rituals and symbols, the relationship between God and the sacrament of marriage is more intimate and defined. Furthermore, the rituals and symbols of marriage further strengthen man's relationship with God. Marriage allows people to strengthen their bond with God and each other. The sacrament of marriage is defined by the Catholic Church as when “a man and a woman form with each other an intimate communion of life and love.” Marriage is a way of uniting a man and a woman to serve God together. According to the dictionary, the definition of marriage is "the state of being united with a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law or the state of being united with a person of the same sex in a relationship such as that of a traditional marriage. This definition states that mutual consent is required; however, this overlooks the importance of dedication. Being married means devoting yourself to your counterpart. Many believe that passion is more important than dedication, but passion is only one aspect of dedication. In a relationship, passion is often felt quite early while dedication is built over years of trust and love and is achieved when both people understand and accept their partner as they are. The sacrament of marriage is mainly based on dedication. Lifelong dedication is rare and unique and it is highlighted by marriage. Additionally, both married people must love each other as...... middle of paper ...... for example, both parties involved in the marriage must read a pamphlet making sure they understand how a marriage must take place. work and how to preserve and respect it. This reflects the influence of the Bible in our lives. Marriage is a sacred and greatest commitment in life and is therefore respected both in biblical times and in our modern society. The sacrament of marriage helps us connect with God as we understand God's love for us. We should love our partner the same way Christ loves the Church. Therefore, a marriage is analogous to Christ's love for the Church. The relationship between Christ and the Church should not be taken lightly. The sacrament of matrimony recognizes that marriage forges a deeper connection and understanding with God. So He has provided us with laws and rituals that we must follow to ensure that a marriage is as holy as possible. ~
