Essay / Kievan Rus - 1389
Although often overlooked, the early history of the Eastern Slavs creates a vital aspect of the rise of the Kievan state. These people, who broke away from the West and South Slavic groups, largely influenced the rise of the kyiv state and, in turn, the rise of Russia. The impact of various cultures, including the Greeks, Khazars and Scythians, led to the Cultural Revolution which saw the creation of an established state in this formerly tribal area. The rise of the kyiv state is the result of immense cultural impact, strong political ties and the desire for a resilient economy. In order to discuss the rise of kyiv, it is essential for us to explore its historical beginnings before the rule of the Varangians. The early Eastern Slavs were located largely around the northern shore of the Black Sea and in the southern steppe. Their location placed them in heavily forested land where it was difficult to farm due to the lack of open fields. Using these deep forests, the Slavs developed a practice known as “slash-and-burn agriculture.” However, this method of farming depleted the soil as they continually used the same fields for years. For this reason, the Eastern Slavs had to continually move and burn all the trees around them to make way for new fields. This may explain why the Eastern Slavs expanded so quickly across Eastern Europe, from the Dnieper to Pomerania. The Eastern Slavs did not yet have an official state; rather, they were divided between family tribes; early tribal centers included Novgorod and kyiv. It is also important for us to discuss the cultural influences felt by the Eastern Slavs before kyiv. Among the influences to which the Slavs were subject during this early period were the Scythians...... middle of paper ......ion between the two empires allowed the economic situation of kyiv to become a situation of envy among the surroundings. States and tribes. Although it is difficult for us to say with certainty the exact nature of the development of the kyiv state or the direct nature of the history of the early Eastern Slavs. However, we are able to make inferences and theories from the evidence presented to us from the Black Sea to the southern steppe. It is important for us to understand that the nations that gave cultural, political and economic dimension to the kyiv state were not directly linked to the rise of the kyiv state. They did, however, contribute to the process of establishing a tribe powerful enough to unite several tribes into one. The history of the early Eastern Slavs must be continuously studied and analyzed to understand the founding of the kyiv state..
