The Citizen Scientist Project is a local project of the Key Biscayne Community Foundation, a non-profit organization. Thanks to the project, I was able to see for myself how contributing locally to a cause can create a ripple effect and contribute to the common good of the whole world. The Citizen Scientist Project aims to educate local people about the environment around them, so that they are aware of the problems our home faces. I learned that it is more effective to educate people about issues than to debate them. Education is at the heart of understanding everything that happens in life and in this case, it certainly helps people become aware of the environmental dangers that pose a threat to society. We enlighten the community by offering citizen science lectures and administering community challenges, challenges in which participants must observe the local environment. People began to notice trash lining beaches or excessive amounts of non-native species. The goal of this project is to make people think about these environmental issues and act accordingly. I realized that local projects like the Citizen Scientist Project could be started in countries like Haiti, to educate people about the land around them.
