  • Essay / The Benefits and Five Characteristics of Sports Education

Some of the benefits are that students learn leadership skills. Much of sports education is student-led. With captains and coaches, the students are in charge, they direct the practices; make starting lineups, etc. This teaches them to lead in certain situations and to be responsible when tasks are given to them so that their team can succeed. Additionally, all students participate. A big problem in physical education now is that children don't participate, most of the time it's because they are not sporty and don't want to embarrass themselves. But with sports education, even someone who is not athletic can still get involved without actually playing the sport. Someone who may be better at taking charge and organizing may be rated on that basis rather than their skill in the sport they are playing this season. It also gives students knowledge about the sport that they might not have had in the past. But ultimately, it's a positive environment. Everyone is involved and no one worries about not being good at something because there is something for everyone to do.
