Have you ever thought about how humans are dependent creatures? Humans tend to depend on factors such as environment, financial situation, social status and even other humans. For example, when I moved from Liberia, Arica, to the United States, I had to change to survive. In Frank Kafka's Metamorphosis, Gregor Samsa's transformation from human to insect led to the transformation of his family. Gregor was the head of his family while he was human. He was a salesman, which helped pay his family's debts. Gregor's family depended on him and when he turned into an insect, his family had to change to survive without Gregor. This illustrates two metamorphoses: Gregor's functioning as a human led to his family dysfunction and his dysfunction led to his family functioning. The illustration shows how much Gregor and his family depend on each other. Before Gregor's transformation, it was functioning. In other words, Gregor worked as a salesman, which helped him support his family and pay off his debts. "Gregor set to work with unusual ardor and, almost overnight, he had become a traveling salesman instead of a small-time clerk, with of course a much greater chance of making money, and his success immediately turned into cold hard cash that he could put on the table before his amazed and happy familyā€¯ (Kafka 442). Gregor caring for his family gave him control over family issues, thus preventing his family from functioning. However, immediately with Gregor's transformation into a bug, his dysfunctional behavior was driven. Gregor woke up and noticed he was a bug. Instead of panicking about his current state, Gregor worried about how he would get to work. Gregor tried many ways to get out of bed but...... middle of paper ...... note: Mr. Samsa to his board, Mrs. Samsa to her employer and Grete to the head from his business, to go on vacation (Kafka 459). To summarize, Frank Kafka's Metamorphosis symbolizes humans' dependence on things. The relationship between Gregor and his family clearly shows how addiction changes between humans when their surroundings or surroundings change. When Gregor functions, his family dysfunction and vice versa. Throughout the story, Gregor's metamorphosis became that of his family. However, family independence was different from Gregor's because Gregor always depends on his family's financial problems to motivate him to work, while his family depends on Gregor's dysfunctional behavior, which ended until his death. In a way, Gregor's dependence on his family ended with his death. The metamorphosis of Gregor and his family was the transformation of Gregor.
