Essay / Animal Testing Research - 1948
The primary goal of medical research is to promote human health. Medical research methods aim to advance scientific understanding and develop potential forms of treatments for the human population. Animal research and experimentation is a method that scientists can use as experiments for their research. Millions of animals like dogs, cats, monkeys, mice, etc. are used in experiments, laboratories and educational training. Scientists use animals rather than humans because experimenting against humans is considered impractical and unethical. The debate over the use of animals in commercial products and educational exercises is an emotionally stimulated issue taking place in modern society. Many animal rights groups, including PETA, have deemed the way animals are treated in testing to be morally wrong. Emotion can be the deciding factor in whether a person believes animal testing is ethical or unethical. The use of animal testing has been beneficial because it has led to the discovery of many different drugs that have saved human lives. However, animal testing is an unethical practice that exists in society. In my opinion, the problems with animal testing outweigh the benefits. Morally, animal testing is a cruel and inhumane practice used in countless experiments. Animals have no say in whether or not they want to be used for testing. They are living creatures that eat, sleep and breathe just like us. They deserve the same moral value and respect as humans. The main problem with animal testing is that a large number of animals are tormented and injured as a result of animal testing. According to dosomething.org, "more than 100 million animals are burned, maimed, poisoned and abused in American laboratories every day...in the middle of a newspaper...this is a major topic of debate today due to the moral and ethical objections. Groups like PETA have made the fight against animal torture a trend. I also think that today's society has become addicted to animal testing to find the answer to every problem. It has become practical to use animals as an alternative. I believe that we must respect the lives of animals as we respect others. The only way to view animal rights is to view them as human beings. Just because they can't communicate with us humans doesn't mean they don't deserve the same respect as humans. They have the same 5 emotions as humans and have their own families, but scientists who test on animals treat them like they are nothing. Alternative animal testing methods should replace animal testing experiments instead of causing millions of animals to suffer..
