Realism is one of many styles of theater. But it is also one of the most important. It triggered something that hadn’t been done before. This report will analyze the realist movement with the neoclassical movement and romanticism. Realism essentially focused on telling life as it was, whether bad or good. It didn't water things down or overplay anything. Everything was shown in its natural state. Romanticism, on the other hand, was very different. It glorified reality in storybook themes. Romanticism relied heavily on idealization while realism told it like it was. The piece was shown realistically. But with Romanticism, the play was more “told” as if it were a story. Romanticism often exaggerated many of the things that were done to describe "ideals", but realism had none of that. Another difference between the two is that the stories of Romanticism ranged from the impossible to the possible. The content of realism, however, varied only from the possible to the probable.
