Usually when I'm bothered by something, unless I'm close to someone, I don't really let others know what's wrong. I like to keep a lot of my emotions inside and I know that's not a good thing to do. It is important for social service workers to communicate effectively because communication is a major component of our work. We need to talk effectively with our customers about the problems they are having and let them know properly what we can do to help them and what they can do. We need to properly relay information about events happening in their community that we want them to participate in and talk to them in more depth about the issues they are facing and how to solve them. Knowing how to communicate in a group manner is important because sometimes social service workers work with multiple clients at work and need to know how to work effectively with each of them. This is different from one-on-one communication because each person must be considered and things that work for one person will not work for others. A worker must therefore be able to balance each person's individual problems and listen equally to all parties.
