  • Essay / Compare The Great Gatsby and J Alfred's Love Song...

Their judgments were made by their emotions and without any coherent reasoning to support them. This illogical thinking distorted their understanding of reality and ultimately led them to failure. For Gatsby, his poisonous dream of reliving the past with Daisy Buchanan seems impossible. He is blinded by his obsession with her and because of her; is unable to think clearly and see the true reality of it, which ultimately causes him to lose his life. Prufrocks, on the other hand, is limited by fear, not love. His excellent understanding of the concept of life is worthless, because his constant worry about whether his actions will succeed or not and the criticism they will provoke prevent him from living his life to the fullest. If a person's sense of logic and reason is closely tied to their emotions, their decisions become flawed and will ultimately lead to their downfall.
