For centuries, humans have sat outside and stared at the night sky, wondering why and how. This question has preoccupied simple-minded people, philosophers and scientists since the dawn of time, and yet no one really has a definitive answer. However, all of this discussion and debate has led to some interesting discoveries, and the theories that have stood the test of time include both scientific and religious perspectives. One of the most famous and widely accepted theories is the Big Bang theory, but while it is accepted, it is also somewhat misunderstood. One of these misconceptions is that this explains the origin of the universe, a claim that is not entirely true. The Big Bang theory is an attempt to explain how the universe developed, not what initiated such creation. (Strickland, 2008) The basics of the theory can be explained with reasonable simplicity, in that, essentially, all current and past substance in the universe came into existence at the same time. At one point, about fifteen billion years ago, all known matter was concentrated into an extremely small ball of infinite density and intense heat, known today as the singularity. This is what began to expand and bring about the existence of the universe. As with all theories, the details of this theory have developed over time, and much progress has been made since the first proposal made by Belgian priest Georges LemaƮtre in the 1920s, who claimed that the universe was beginning to starting from a single primordial atom. (Chow, 2011) (Coffey, 2010) (Robbins, 2006) The early Universe was not limited by the laws of physics as we know them today, and therefore this means that scientists cannot predict with great precision what the Universe looked like at the time of the ear. ...... middle of paper ...... which has enough substantial evidence to be most widely accepted worldwide.
