(About 250) (Argosy, 2014) What Jean Piaget describes as formal thinking is the place where a person can see other perspectives and reason. how different choices can change the end result. (Gerrig, 2012) I feel like I entered this stage when I was 12, an opossum came into our house. I remember being scared and upset that my father had killed the opossum, but I understood and reasoned that the animal was dangerous and that she hissed and tried to bite everyone. On the other hand, he was an animal and he deserved to live. When we found her babies the next morning, my father killed them too, I was mortified and so angry. I knew again that they would die if they didn't have a mother to take care of them. In this situation, I tried to see both the side of the animal that was looking for a warm place for its babies and how dangerous it was to let the animal into the house. My thoughts were that she was an animal. We lived in the woods and had no place in his natural home. So killing her for doing what she would have done naturally was wrong. I struggled with this for weeks to understand that my father had to protect us for the same reason the opossum had to protect his family. Especially sometimes
