What is wind energy, how it works and why it benefits the worldBy Ella CampbellThere are many different sources of energy that are naturally available around the world in different forms. There are two types of energy: renewable and non-renewable. Non-renewable products are made from fossil fuels; which can include oil, coal and wood. They are not renewable because they are not regenerated immediately and the production of a fossil fuel can take between 100 and 100,000 years. They are important because they produce constant energy around the world. This is due to their wide availability. The problem with non-renewable energy is that when burned, it releases harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Especially when the world, as a whole, consumes too much, too quickly; and therefore the earth cannot replenish fuels naturally or quickly enough. Renewable energy sources are obtained from different natural sources. One of the advantages of this type of energy is that it can be replaced and is sustainable. Renewable energy is important because it is widely used for electricity generation and heating. It's also important because it can be reconstituted, and therefore better for the environment. One of the most commonly used forms of renewable energy is wind energy. Wind power converts the kinetic energy of wind-driven blades into electricity. The wind turns the blades, which turns an electric generator, which generates electricity, which travels through power lines and ultimately reaches your home. There are several types of wind turbines ranging from a variety of horizontal to vertical axes. Smaller turbines are used for purposes such as charging batteries for backup power, or middle of paper......icies. Contact the Duke WordPress team. April 05, 2014.
