  • Essay / Evolutionary Argument - 1038

Over the past 150 years, evolutionary theory has completely refined the understanding of changes in the inherited characteristics of biological populations over time, and this theory has now become a unifying concept in the sciences of the life. In 1859, in his book The Origin of Species, Charles Darwin proposed that organisms evolve over time to adapt to their environment and thus achieve longevity and success as a species as a whole. Additionally, Darwin was able to support his theory with significant research, and subsequent studies were able to provide additional support for evolution. Needless to say, this theory caused great controversy at the time it was proposed, particularly among religious groups. Darwin's theory openly challenged other ideas specific to certain religious cultures regarding the origins of life, such as intelligent design. This opposition has harmfully delayed the acceptance of Darwinism and the pursuit of scientific research based on this theory. Although it has been universally accepted as fact within the scientific community for decades, the ever-present opposition from pious religious subcultures still calls into question whether evolution should be taught to students in courses secondary school biology. Darwin's theory of evolution is supported by extensive data, is a recognized science that students, because of their academic integrity, have the right to learn, and, unlike alternative theories based primarily on theology, is based solely on facts; therefore, evolution should be included in the high school curriculum. The most obvious reason why evolution should have a place in classrooms is the importance of research that supports the theory. Darwin's initiative observations that led to his theory involved various species found throughout ...... middle of article ...... in species. Evolution, a completely objective subject, is indeed backed by much compelling research, and children should be free to have an open mind about this important law of nature. Darwin actually documented his own doubts about evolution as it was first proposed, but as more data was collected, he began to firmly believe that his theory was correct. There is enough research to convince people of this scientific truth; all it takes is greater open-mindedness on the part of students and teachers. The objective facts supporting Darwinism show that the subject is something students should be allowed to learn about. As our scientific knowledge evolves, it is clear that evolution will one day be fully accepted. At this point, however, people should work to accelerate this acceptance of the progress of science and the liberation of the minds of students..
