  • Essay / Why I want to get a graduate degree - 2516

There are many reasons that convinced me to pursue a graduate degree in social work. First, the level of training has increased significantly in the field of social work, particularly with regard to health social work. The majority of healthcare jobs require an advanced degree, especially in my hometown of Kamloops, British Columbia. I hope to do case management in the healthcare field and most of my colleagues have said that I probably wouldn't be a candidate for this position if I didn't have some graduate education. Additionally, I have invested my time in a career that I hope to pursue for the rest of my life and with that being said, I want to have options and flexibility of opportunities in the social work field. Since human services offers such a wide range of services, it is in my best interest to expose myself to as much opportunity as possible and earning a graduate degree will allow that to happen. Second, earning a graduate degree allows me to pursue higher-level jobs. , which in turn gives me job security, which is important to me because I have a young family and they rely on me to provide for them. Higher education comes with more stable income and job certainty, especially in British Columbia's competitive social work market. Most social workers recognize that an advanced degree is necessary to obtain employment. Third, no one in my family ever went to college; I am the first to enter post-secondary education, so for my personal goals, I hope to open a new path for my lineage. I want my family to know that college is accessible because I have proven that higher education has positive outcomes both personally and professionally. Fourth, my main motivation for pursuing higher education is......... middle of paper... I believe that just writing these goals down will manifest and I look where I came from until where I am now. and where I can be in the future. I am very excited to progress both academically and professionally. I am most excited about the positive effects my journey will have on other clients, family members, friends and colleagues. Since these people will also positively affect my journey, in my opinion, most things are circular and transactional. We all contribute to each other in one way or another. In concluding this application, I would like to thank the committee for taking time out of their busy lives to contribute to us future graduate students, and I am excited to take the next step. in my life, who is undertaking a graduate program. Thank you again for your time and consideration. I will wait patiently for your response.
