Although these individual categories differ in their organizational structure, they are similar in the standards they must meet and the services they provide provide, such as medical and therapeutic services. Some of the services actually provided include skilled nursing services, physical therapy, occupational therapy, medical social services, and home support services (Park-Lee and Decker, 2010, p. 5). Nurses play many roles in home health care. They may serve as staff nurses in which they provide necessary care and educate clients and families on self-care. They act as client advocates by coordinating the care the patient needs by directing them to appropriate services and ensuring clients attend their appointments. They act as mentors to nursing colleagues as well as the community by providing training that meets their needs (Stanhope & Lancaster,
