Essay / Similarities between Judaism, Islam and Christianity
Similarities Between Judaism, Islam, and Christianity There are many religions today that people revere and adapt into their daily lives. Some may have multiple gods, while others may only have one. But three of these religions are considered the major religion practiced by most people in the world today. Although different in some senses in terms of history and other teachings, they all have commonalities that most of their followers do not seem to realize. The similarities are very important to better understanding each religion and being able to determine how they differ. In this article I like to discuss the similarities found between the three major monotheistic religions of Judaism, Islam and Christianity. The first similarity of these three major monotheistic religions is their belief that there is only one God who exists and this can be read in the sacred texts, the Quran and the Bible. For the three monotheistic religions, God is the only one who can be considered the Creator of the Universe, the Almighty and the venerable, gracious and merciful divine being. They also accept the fact that this god is the same God that Abraham worshiped, as recorded in the Old Testament. This particular similarity between these three religions has earned them the name “Abrahamic religions” by some experts. Despite the different names these three religions give to this particular god, they are one. Abraham is also considered the father of God's children, often called the people of Israel. (Lin) What differs in the three religions' conception of God is the way they defend them. It can be seen that Christianity and Judaism are close in their belief in God. They noted that I...... middle of document... three monotheistic religions are different in terms of their teachings on the word of God and the virtues in which one should live one's life; their similarities unite them in the aspect of teaching the true nature of life and how it should be lived. Their differences separate them from each other but if you look closely, they are not that different. The similarities and differences would also allow each believer to understand what the other religion says and easily understand what makes them different. Knowing all these facts would help keep one's reservations on a particular issue in mind if debating with someone who believes in another religion. This would also help each other to coexist and respect those who believe in another religion and not cause conflicts with them just because of different beliefs about their chosen religion..
