We are responsible for our actions in every situation. Choosing an appropriate conflict style is the key to effective conflict prevention and management. We use our preferred conflict style in conflict situations, but we may choose a different style when necessary. I've never thought about my conflict style before. The quiz offered in this course gave me the opportunity to rediscover this aspect of myself. The Conflict Management Style Quiz tells me that I have the “orange” conflict style. This tells me that I have a collaborative conflict management style. The cooperative style of problem solving allows people to work together so that no one loses but everyone wins. People who use this style try to find a solution that is acceptable to everyone and helps meet their interests and maintain good relationships. When managing conflict, I try to sense and respond to the needs of everyone involved in the conflict. My assertive nature has a lot to do with my conflict style, but unlike the competitor, I try to cooperate effectively with everyone involved and recognize that everyone's position is important and meaningful. I value conflict management by becoming aware of my personal style and understanding my strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes it is difficult to bring together a variety of points of view to arrive at the best solution or when there have been previous conflicts within the group. The collaborative style is effective in satisfying both parties in resolving the conflict. This strategy works well to achieve a “win/win” solution. It takes time and effort.
