Agriculture played a fundamental role in the success and failure of many of society's policies adopted throughout the 20th century, such as the Five Year Plans and collectivization. The importance of the countryside is due to the need to support a growing urban population and the fact that a large part of Soviet society, mostly women, resided in this area. This meant that women played a vital role in all aspects of agriculture in the Soviet countryside. The government realized this and promoted women in the workplace as heroes and role models. He also promulgated progressive family codes to improve the position of women in society. However, this has not changed societal attitudes, particularly in the most rural areas. This was evident in the extent to which women were still expected to perform domestic chores if they worked and in the extent of discrimination they faced at home and in the workplace. Rural women were limited to the lowest-paying jobs that typically required the most arduous manual labor. It was extremely difficult for women to reach high positions in the workforce except during times of war. The position of rural women in Soviet society was extremely important. Thanks to their hard work and perseverance, the Soviet Union was able to survive, especially during devastating wars. It is therefore important to understand their role in campaigns. After the October Revolution of 1917, Soviet society was radically transformed in the countryside. Before the revolution, the countryside was made up of family plots which allowed them to meet their needs. In these family farms, women work from a very young age alongside men. The autonomous family plot was a plot in which each member of the family had their share of the work.
