Essay / Human-caused global warming: true or false? - 677
Imagine a polar bear floating on an iceberg in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and the despair he feels. What if there was a serious water shortage and life on earth could no longer continue as it does now? What would most people do if it was caused by humans? Some say humans are causing these horrific scenes, but others say the Earth is in a natural warming cycle that makes these tragic events possible. Although most scientists agree that global warming is happening, they cannot determine whether man is crazy or whether it is a natural phenomenon. The strongest arguments for man-made global warming come from scientific theories. One theory is that if solar energy were responsible for increasing temperatures, the atmosphere would warm from the top down, not the bottom up (Begley and Murr 3). If the atmosphere traps heat, then it would make sense that the concentration of heating would increase exponentially as we get closer to the Earth's surface. Recently, the CEO of Exx-onMobil confirmed his belief in man-made global warming (“Belief” 1). Oil companies are known to reject such a theory that would lead people to abandon their dependence on oil and petroleum products and is a strong ally in the fight for emissions control. However, these theories do not come without opposition; many people are convinced that global warming is nothing more than a scam. A strong argument against global warming is that the argument keeps changing, at first it was simply about warmer weather, but it has now evolved to include all types of non-seasonal weather conditions (Johnson 2) . If everyone could change what they say, the world would have no responsibility. Another argument...... middle of paper ......g and will continue to occur as time passes. Humans must determine the cause of Earth's warming and come together to do what is in everyone's best interest.
