Essay / An Explanation of Pink Thinking, by Lynn Peril - 1292
Customary norms regarding gender norms were never simple in the 1940s; they were complex constructs formed from the political, social and economic developments of a given period. With the advent of the Cold War, the chances of a return to normal were very difficult. Although men had to work and provide for the family while women stayed at home to take care of the household. In return, women began to resist the norms of their society and try to achieve the new standard of femininity. Women today have more responsibilities than just getting married and having children. This is the altercation of the concept of “Pink Think”, and how wrong it is due to the limitation of women to follow an imaginary standard. All of these concepts are the interpretation of author Lynn Peril, who calls this mindset “Pink Think.” In today's society, many people have different views on what is appropriate behavior for a woman. Some believe that women should be able to join the military and join intense work forces alongside men, without question, unlike others who have the mentality of women "staying in the kitchen", which means staying at the house, take care of the children and support the man in any way possible. Right now, women all over the world are going to college and working, some with higher incomes than men, and they can't stand the idea of being stay-at-home moms. In Pink Think: Becoming a Woman in Many Uneasy Lessons by Lynn Peril, he entered the generation in the 1950s and 1960s, the era of the Cold War. At the time, the fear of nuclear war with Soviet Russia was on everyone's minds, the idea that it could occur at any time bothered everyone. Cold War fear became a culture shift for America. For preparation, thanks to the hyper suburbs, the family......middle of paper......feminine and perhaps masculine behavior. A common misconception about feminism is that women should only stay at home, watch the children and support the man. A common expression would be to “keep the women in the kitchen.” Today you can find many women getting an education, reaching higher levels beyond college and working in well-paying careers and some producing men. In this case, staying at home and becoming a housewife should not be an option. Women today are not just about a pretty face. With women having power in our government, control of education and big business. Regardless of gender, no one should allow themselves to be influenced by something that would cause people to become less than what they are. Hard work and efforts would be in vain if today's women allowed themselves to stay at home instead of doing something with themselves and for the common good..
