1 IntroductionNowadays, it is common to hear complaints about back and neck pain. In fact, according to the American Chiropractic Association, approximately 31 million Americans suffer from lower back pain at any given time. There are several reasons for this, the most common being poor posture or lack of back support throughout the day. The question then arises: is this avoidable? What can be done to ensure that back pain becomes a less common problem among adults? A possible solution to these issues would be to ensure that good posture is introduced from an early age. The purpose of this study is to identify and discuss appropriate classroom ergonomics and attempt to rectify common causes of back pain. It is evident that school furniture is not ergonomically suited to promote good posture and is a fundamental problem leading to poor posture and consequently back problems which can last for the rest of students' lives . In addition to inappropriate furniture, heavy backpacks cause unnecessary strain on the spine and are another cause of back pain among students. Currently, students have to carry heavy books and materials to class, these books stay with them for the entire school day. It should also be noted that the majority of students carry their backpacks loosely on their shoulders, which moves the center of mass of the backpack away from the spine, causing additional torque on the lumbar region. The lumbar region being the weakest part of the spine, it is the cause of the majority of back injuries. There is also a significant lack of education introduced at the elementary level to promote good sitting posture and other factors related to back injuries and middle alignment of a sheet of paper and a heavy binder as contributors . to musculoskeletal pain in children: an ergonomic intervention program in school education.
