  • Essay / Thomas Edison's Invention of Everyday Life - 999

HMI lamps, neon lights, fluorescent lamps, LED lamps and carbon arc lamps are some examples. HMI lights have been specially designed for the film industry. They are high quality and are made with an arc lamp unlike the incandescent bulb. This requires an electronic device that produces and balances light. Neon lights were invented by French inventor Georges Clause. These lights are made with a glass tube filled with neon or another gas. When an electric current passes through them, the neon atoms disintegrate then in a fraction of a second they recombine. When atoms recombine, neon light is produced. Clause also created non-reactive electrodes that did not overheat and were able to withstand ion bombardment. A fluorescent lamp is a glass tube charged with a mixture of argon and mercury vapor. There are metal electrodes at each end and are coated with alkaline earth oxide. When current passes through the gas between the electrodes, the gas ionizes and produces ultraviolet radiation. Fluorescent lights use less electricity and cost less than incandescent light
