HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVEFor most of history, the volume of waste generated by humans was significantly low due to low population density and low exploitation of resources natural. Common waste generated in premodern times was largely ash and biodegradable human waste that was dumped into the ground. Used wooden or metal tools were usually passed down to subsequent generations. However, some societies have been more prodigious than others when it comes to waste generation. The Mayans of Central America were a village people who gathered monthly and burned their waste in large dumps. Throughout history, human progress has been intrinsically linked to waste management due to its effects on public and environmental health. Waste management has seriously altered human history in various ways, just as it will in the near and distant future.
