Essay / Technology causes social isolation - 1017
How can technology impact your social life? Who would have thought that technology would affect life in such a significant way? People didn't know that technology could impact the way humans interact with each other. By listening to music and playing games on their mobile devices, how many people actually get to know each other by standing side by side? A short subway or bus ride will show you how little interaction there is in human life with the amount of usage of their mobile devices. The role technology plays in socialization has a huge impact on how people interact. People can stand side by side without saying a word to each other. While waiting for the next class to start or even during class, people disconnect from the rest of the world, which can lead to social isolation. Technology has had a negative impact on the way humans socialize because it makes them less interactive. Social isolation is a health problem that can become very serious and lead to depression, anxiety, hopelessness, and many other things. Social isolation can be avoided if technology use is limited to appropriate times, such as when you are bored, alone, or in an emergency you use a cell phone. The development of technology has led to different ways of interacting socially. The launch of the computer had a huge impact in American history. It was not only the computer that was launched, but also the Internet. Which led to different ways people could interact with each other through email and social media (Lutfala). Some of the most used social networks are Twitter and Facebook. People can become addicted to tweeting and posting a tweet or status can become a priority for some people. These network accounts allow people to interact with friends and family around the world whenever they want, at no cost. However, people are so addicted to these social networks that they forget the way people are supposed to interact, which is by talking in person. Online, children and teens can have hundreds of “friends” without having to leave their homes or open their mouths. Although it may seem easier for people to send a text, email, or instant message, it destroys the sense of being able to interact with our friends and family and being able to see each other face to face..
