Violence in SportsIntroductionViolence in sports is a problem that is getting worse every year. This is mainly attributed to factors such as fans taking their favorite teams too seriously or simply an excessive display of recklessness. Spectators who watch the actions of their favorite teams are affected by this and may react only with aggression and emotion. In the NFL, some teams have players that fans watch only to deliver big hits against their opponents. Fans encourage the behavior these players were brought onto the team for, but that behavior harms other players. There is a very fine line between aggression and violence. It seems that this line is being crossed more and more over the years. The problem of violence in sports, particularly in the NFL, is deeply rooted in injuries. Head injuries, various socio-economic factors and disregard for the rules of the game are some of the factors that fuel violence. In the United States, sports leagues are not always equivalent in terms of violence, because it is more present in some sports than in others. Although violence is seen primarily as a negative thing, it can also be positive. When it comes to violence in sports, people's opinions and thoughts vary, from very strong to none at all. Benefits of Violence in Sports Some sports are popularized solely on the promise of violence. An example of a sport like this is hockey. Some fans attend games hoping the players will fight. The outward display of aggression is what fans crave and what makes NHL teams make their money. Another example of acceptable violence in sports is the reckless and overly aggressive play of NFL players. There is a possible way to keep sports like football as they were intended and d ensure the safety of these players. Preventing some of these injuries could have saved someone's life. I don't think any sport is safe from acts similar to the murder-suicide of Jovan Belcher or the murder of Hernandez. If you have suffered a head injury, you are likely to suffer the full effects. That said, I think more needs to be done to protect athletes. Leagues need to come down harder on violators of league policies regarding excessive aggressiveness, recklessness, etc. I think violence is allowed when it's part of the structure and function of the game. When violence isn't customary or acceptable, that's when there's a problem. This is where morality comes in. If the game is played the way it's supposed to be played, many of the problems surrounding violence could be resolved or even eliminated..
