Essay / Essay on the language barrier - 815
What language barrier? There are more differences than similarities in the way women and men communicate, as perceived by the majority. Since the early 1990s, many authors and psychologists have written books highlighting this fact and describing their conversations as a catalog of misunderstandings. The difference is mainly due to nature and not habit or nurture. The different ways their brains tend to be wired are what make them communicate differently. Female brains are good at verbal tasks and male brains are better suited to math and visuospatial tasks. Men prefer action while women prefer to talk. To say that women and men fundamentally differ when it comes to communication is just a false belief. Yet these myths are firmly entrenched in workplaces. A call center manager once said that he preferred to hire women because he was looking for someone who could interact better with people. Baron-Cohen wrote that female brains are better suited to jobs as counselors, therapists, social workers, and facilitators, while men do better as engineers, bankers, or lawyers, etc. According to the myth of Mars and Venus, there is a difference in the use of language to communicate between the two sexes. Some claims about the difference in communication according to this myth are that communication and language matter more to women than men, men speak less than women, men are less verbally gifted than women, men's goal to use language is to get things done but women think about making connections and connections with people, facts are covered more in men's speeches while women talk about f...... middle of paper......ts. This is the reason why writers include facts out of nowhere in their publications and people believe them blindly. Hyde's meta-analysis is worth including because it is based on facts and denies the myths that people believe. In my opinion, there is much less difference than is exaggerated by the majority and also by media producers. speaking more than men is another popular notion and one that is specifically opposed in the article. I also felt that it was mainly due to the different contexts in which men and women are analyzed which created more differences. If we consider an informal situation and compare the language and number of words spoken by men and women, I agree with the author that there would be only a few minor differences and more similarities in language and communication..
