Essay / Environmental issues that can lead to sustainable transport...
IntroductionClimate change plays an important role in the implementation of sustainable transport. The location of workplace, home, leisure, education and other facilities plays the role of driving the travel framework. The transportation system is the primary support for daily activities. At the same time, it is a source of discomfort, due to noise, traffic jams, air pollution and climate change, contributing to 20% of greenhouse gas emissions globally. global (IPPC 2013). The level of automobile ownership and use is unsustainable today, leading to polluted and unsanitary cities. Each of the mentioned concerns can be considered important in moving towards more sustainable urban development. The main goal of land use planning is to find ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the local, regional and national levels. Although large countries, such as the United Kingdom, are directing their transport policy initiatives towards the use of sustainable mobility, this approach is difficult to implement in practice in a society accustomed to traveling by car (Hutton , 2013). The existing urban form and fabric has contributed to increased car use. The built environment can influence the integration of sustainable travel into the urban model. Planning can begin to modify the inherited pattern of travel behavior and establish a modified trajectory for the future. There are many opportunities to generate appropriate planning strategies at the built environment level, which can lead to sustainable travel. Integrated land use planning and urban design principles promote the development of mixed-use residential areas that can be well connected by public transport and safe for cycling or walking (Mark Deaking, 2007). Territorial planning and the compact city. Traveling by car is essential. .... middle of paper ......t.Daniel Bongardt, FC, 2013. Low carbon land transport.
