    Both approaches are based on deep misunderstandings of what makes a problem like poverty “social.” Neither draws on how social life actually functions as a dynamic relationship between social systems and how individuals participate in those systems. This is also what traps them between blaming individuals and society. Solving social problems does not require us to choose or blame one or the other. It forces us to see how the two combine to shape the terms of social life and how people actually live.
