    Written Case Analysis – Product Development IDEOIDEO is faced with the decision of whether it should shorten its product development process to meet a client's schedule , or request a product launch extension so that IDEO has sufficient time. to carry out a complete development process. IDEO's customer, Handspring, asked IDEO to create a competitor to the Palm V, which IDEO helped develop. IDEO is faced with the task of reconfiguring a palm-type product that meets Handspring's desire to provide a lower-cost palm-type product with interchangeable boards and an improved design aesthetic that will appeal to a broader customer base. Dennis Boyle, former team leader of the Palm V project and soon-to-be leader of the Visor project, must decide whether or not to commit to Handspring's short development timeline, which would inevitably lead to development shortcuts. IDEO's culture emphasizes the expression of individuality within the company. an environment based on teamwork. Employees are encouraged to decorate their personal office spaces, move around while working, and communicate with other employees. This clan culture plays an important role in the innovation process. IDEO's competitive advantage resulting from its unique approach to innovation and development cannot be sustained without the efforts of the entire team working together. The decision-making process must therefore reflect the overall culture of the company and integrate contributions from the entire team (Christensen, 4). Therefore, Boyle's decision on whether to create the Visor in a short period of time should also include the team's contributions to align with the overall company culture. IDEO's approach to the product design process is based on a collective group effort that encourages suggestions, multiples of prototypes, and...... middle of paper...... dependent no only from Boyle, but also from his team.
