The historical development of higher education has been a direct acclimatization of the academic profession (Altbach et al., 2011). There is a long history among universities that has created many traditions. Among these traditions, the academic profession has played an essential role (Altbach et al., 2011). Shaping virtually every movement in higher education, from teaching to research to institutional governance, personnel has become a critical issue (American Federation of Teachers, 2007). Lail (2009) suggests that quality teaching impacts the quality of its faculty. To reflect the social and political history of our country, A Historical Overview of American Higher Education plays an important role in telling the story of the legal and administrative difficulties of higher education. The American tradition in higher education has always encouraged a strong commitment to undergraduate education, whether it took place in the 18th, 19th, 20th, or 21st centuries (Thelin, 2003). At the start of the 21st century, higher education has become a competitive business. In many countries, students must compete for scarce places at universities, and in all countries, admission to top institutions has become more difficult. Universities compete for status and ranking, and usually for funding from government or private sources. While competition has always been a force in academia and can help produce excellence, it can also contribute to the decline of the sense of academic community, mission and traditional values (Altbach et. al, 2009). Higher education is increasingly seen as a major driver of economic development. Colonial until 1758. There are a wide range of issues that need to be addressed in higher education and society today (Park, 1979). Some faculty members new to higher education experience work overloads and develop stress due to the high demands the profession requires. Faculty members of the present moment have a responsibility to support and pave the way for faculty members entering the future. Austin (2002) established that the most important contribution any faculty member can make is to prepare colleagues for future challenges. Institutional organization may prove necessary when new teachers arrive. Considering past experiences and suggestions that many have to offer can be a great place to start (Austin, 2002).
