However, it has a richly picturesque territory. There are wide grassy valleys; forested mountain ranges and heavily forested jungle areas. There are three geographic regions into which the country is divided. Northern Bhutan is in the Great Himalayas, where the mountains reach 24,000 feet and the weather is cold. Central Bhutan lies in the middle of the Himalayan region where there are several fertile valleys. The Duars Plain, located along the southern border of Bhutan, is a hot, humid and rainy area.
