Two years ago, I worked at this same school as a Healthy Out-of-School Time (HOST) program employee. It was an after-school program that allowed students to develop in a safe, caring, and educationally rich environment. Seeing the students I taught in my first semester of college who essentially made me want to serve my community two years later; made me understand the true definition of a servant leader. I was honored to return to the place that served me in my time of need. From there, I was able to sow a new seed among these same students. Anyone can perform community service, log the hours, and get a signature, but a servant leader is someone who makes service a priority in their field.
