  • Essay / The Violence in Tamar's Scream By Pamela Cooper-White

I wish I could say we can find a way to stop the violence, but unfortunately it's going to happen and we can't stop every single person to be mistreated. But this text has allowed us to understand how churches can respond to these acts effectively to allow the victim to heal and move forward. Being a clergy or pastor helping someone through these difficult times is difficult and White says that “they should expect to feel helpless, overwhelmed and hated as a regular part of the challenge of this job.” » (Town of Tamar, 195). When dealing with these traumatized victims, they look for a way to forget, and as a pastor, clergy member, or counselor, you look for a way to help them cope. I have found that the best way to help someone through these situations is through empowerment. I agree that it is also important to make sure you help the victim understand that it is not their fault that this happened and that you believe them. You need to build trust with victims so they can be sure that you are truly theirs.
