  • Essay / Not a minute too late - 684

“What do you think your aspirations are, Amanda?” Across the dining room table, my mother watched me from her computer. “I want to help in any way I can, but you need to tell me where you’re going.” Praying for direction regarding my schedule and studies, I was nearing the end of high school. Planning my next step was like trying to design a travel itinerary using a map written in an unfamiliar language. Is university a good solution? What subjects would I study? Should I look for a job? To occupy the coming summer, I had accepted a summer internship offer at a wildlife rehabilitation center. Because this opportunity required twenty hours per week, the schedule required revision. Volunteering for only two hours every seven days, I was strongly considering eliminating the time I spent at a local library. Little did I know that even though I was considering leaving the library altogether, I would soon be interviewing for a library job![3] Diligently volunteering at a local library for almost four years, I didn't I didn't expect to have the opportunity to become a staff member. [4] Every Tuesday morning, I spent two hours in the vast institutional building seen from my garden. [2] For preschool storytime programs, I cut colored construction paper into different shapes, which were used during craft times. As a teacher's aide, I helped the children learn about literature and cleaned the room after activities. Another responsibility was systematizing and organizing book carts and other library materials. [5] During a visit to the library on a Friday, the director informed me of the outstanding job openings and offered me a job application. [6] Three clerks had abruptly resigned. Material without a shelf......in the middle of a paper......a library worker showed me the rewards of hard work. Never inclined to become a librarian, I started volunteering early in high school simply to get a taste of the corporate world. God, in his providence, orchestrated the maintenance and employment of the clerk. Thanks to this opportunity, I realized the pleasure I get from working there. It is a pleasure to create synergy with the staff team, some of whom I have known since childhood through my own visits to the library. Although I'm not sure I should pursue a graduate degree in library science, the field has emerged as a possible career path. For now, I continue to seek the Lord’s guidance and wisdom. He is faithful to consistently provide what is needed according to his timing. Most notably in the case of the library, an answer to prayer came neither a minute too soon nor a minute too late..
