  • Essay / Internet Cybercrime - 1123

In 1995, the World Wide Web, also called the Internet, was created, although the Internet could be found as early as 1958. The Internet used to be where nerds hung out in the early days, Now everyone is on the Internet. Over the millennium, the Web has become a global phenomenon. You can now order pizza from your computer, talk to your girlfriend or boyfriend, and even play a game with a friend in another country. With this new technology also comes a whole new set of crimes, such as stalking, hacking, cyberbullying, identity theft, and crimes of a sexual nature. The Internet has opened a whole new door to crime and has also made it easier to commit crimes. This is why I think there should be stricter laws against cyberbullying, because no one deserves the treatment that children like Amanda Todd received. One of the most talked about cybercrimes is cyberbullying. Cyberbullying occurs via computer or via text message by a cohort of individuals. In the old days, when you were bullied at school, you were safe at home. Things have changed now, you are no longer safe at home, bullies can follow you home through the computer texting you on your phone or commenting on you on Facebook. Many young people have been victims of cyberbullying, leading them to commit suicide. After browsing many cyberbullying forums, I noticed people saying things like, "Block them." and things like “These kids today don’t have a backbone.” Which leads me to believe that these crimes are not being taken as seriously as they should be. Adults see it as children being children and children see it as a little harmless fun. But the people who don't see these things as such are the victims... middle of paper ... how what the child is doing and whether he is being bullied or not. Works Cited Cyberbullying Statistics.
