Erving Goffman said that dramaturgical analysis "would lead us to describe the impression management techniques used in a given establishment, the main impression management problems in the establishment, and the identity and interrelationships of the various teams of performance that operate in the establishment” (240). Goffman compares social interactions to an act: there are the actors, the audience and the stage. For different plays, actors take on a new role, just as in different groups someone can portray themselves.
