Defined by Princeton University's WordNet search source, progressivism is (the political orientation of those who favor progress toward better conditions in government and From an educational point of view, the term is converted to define an educational approach that began at the end of the 19th century and has persisted in various forms to the present day (Wikipedia.org). The idea of progressivism was introduced in the late 1890s (early 1900s), during the Progressive Era, in an effort to respond to the economic (industrial) and social crises that industrialization experienced. The movement brought down an exclusive government and converted it into a pro-reform network, passed laws that set wages and work standards, gave more rights to women, controlled the work of children, and many other things that have impacted government and legal decisions today. Progressivism has greatly influenced how educators effectively educate their students and how affected students function. One of the main concepts behind progressivism was to improve the American lifestyle in general. Many of the state's citizens were subjected to poor quality education products, as well as low-income households. According to an essay provided by Academia.edu, progressivism allowed students to learn and grow as a person through lessons that get the student involved in the lesson, as well as providing a method scientific enabling reflective thinking.
