Essay / Pre-hospital Intubation for Pediatric Trauma Victims IS HOSPITAL NECESSARY FOR VICTIMS OF PEDIATRIC TRAUMA? 6CONCLUSION 8REFERENCES 9INTRODUCTIONData from the World Health Organization (WHO) on the world's leading causes of death and the global burden of disease show that traumatic injuries are the leading cause of mortality, morbidity and disability among children (0-14 years) - causing more deaths than the combination of other diseases1. It is in this context that pre-hospital emergency care becomes very important in the care of injured children as well as adults. In most cases, the first responder, who may be a doctor, paramedic or even a lay person, is the first to provide the essential life-saving medical care (basic or advanced), all with the aim of optimizing the physiological state of the victim before his arrival. nearest medical facility2, 3. Indeed, several evidence suggests that this life-saving first aid has an effect on the morbidity and mortality of the injured patient2-4. But recent research has also shown that interventions such as invasive airway management, intravenous access, and fluid administration are associated with a higher rate of complications and failures in pediatric patients, while some interventions that have proven effective have been carried out by specially trained and experienced staff3. This is due to the difference in size and overall anatomy of children compared to adults, so many of these procedures prove difficult or result in complications when performed...... middle of paper .. .... severe head injury.
