  • Essay / Project Software - 772

Projects with lower levels of complexity require less complex software to track project progress. Most projects with a lower level of complexity can use common software packages currently available/open source on their desktops. For this assignment, we chose to study some less common project management software. We found promising software that uses the tools needed to accomplish a project task. We've researched and familiarized ourselves with the programs we've selected to provide insight into how some of the latest innovations in project management software work together. One of the most accessible types of project management software available is Microsoft Excel, which can be found within the Microsoft Office suite. Features and benefits of Excel include: an easy to use and understand program format, drop-down lists and formulas, the program offers the ability to create GANTT charts and many different graphical aids to help visually identify the project process. The Excel program can help create budget and financial analyses. One of the additional features that Excel offers is a free set of ready-to-use templates, which saves time by not having to create your own specialized setup. Free Excel templates serve as a resource for any project management task. Here is a list of some of the free templates that you can use for project development using Microsoft Excel: Project Schedules, Schedules, Critical Path Construction Analysis, and Project Schedule. Another less complex software that can help you with project management tasks is QuickBase from Intuition. QuickBase project management software can simplistically edit and customize......paper documents. Unfortunately, this program is on the high end of the spectrum and costs just over three thousand dollars per user per year. This particular software offers support to its users through its virtual resource center or through online webcasts. In summary, our conclusion is that the cheapest project management software may not be robust enough to handle larger, complex projects. We've researched a variety of software to help project professionals select the best program to meet their specific project needs. Each individual software offers a dynamic set of resources to provide a systematic method for defining project elements that will ultimately lead a project manager to choose the most effective project management software. Each software is designed to help guide a project manager to a successful outcome.
